PRIK KEE MANI KHAO - BIO

I owe the seeds for this variety to a good friend who has lived in Thailand since 2004.

This purebred Bird's Eye comes from him, whose name literally means "rat shit". The name can only be traced back to the shape of the fruit, not to its properties: similar to how its little sister, the Prik Kee Noo, lays it the PRIK KEE MANI KHAO with 50,000 to 100,000 Scoville sets the bar high and should be avoided by people with sensitive palates.

These varieties have become an integral part of Thai cuisine and they are increasingly found in local gastronomy.

The PRIK KEE MANI KHAO is perfect to be cooked fresh, as well as dried, soaked in oil or pulverized.

Like any other chilli, PRIK KEE MANI KHAO is grown in our greenhouse on organic soil and with rainwater with the addition of organic fertilizer that is certified for agriculture.

For sharpness - a brief story about that "Scoville Scale"

The Scoville scale was invented in 1912 by the American pharmacologist Wilbur Scoville. It is used to determine the degree of spiciness of fruits of the Capsicum genus, which includes peppers and chillies. The Scoville scale was originally based on the so-called Scoville Organoleptic Test developed by Wilbur Scoville. Here, a sample of a chilli was prepared and repeatedly diluted with water until the test subjects no longer felt any heat. The degree to which the test persons (subjectively) could no longer taste the sharpness in the sample was referred to as SHU (Scoville Heat Units) or Scoville degree. Nowadays, of course, subjective tests are no longer carried out.
